How it Works

While Grand River Academy enables individualized learning and flexibility in pace and schedule, it also comes with the structure, administrative support, oversight, accountability, and assessment that parents and students need and expect. This program is full-time, meaning it replaces a traditional classroom environment.

  • Parents of children in grades K-can expect to spend 3-5 hours per day supporting their child’s education.
  • In grades 7-8, learning coach time typically decreases to about 2 hours per day as your child becomes more independent.
  • By high school, the parental learning coach role continues to be an important, supportive element; however, a student is expected to manage his or her own time with greater independence.
  • You can expect your child to spend 5-6 hours per day on coursework.
  • Learning coaches are parents, friends, guardians, grandparents, etc., directly supporting the student at home.  They help students with learning and monitoring pacing.  They help students to learn to reach out to their teacher on their own to get help, thus encouraging students to become more independent as they grow older.
  • Regular assessments are built into the courses to help teachers pinpoint areas of difficulty.
  • Students can take two cross-over classes at their home-attendance school.
  • Students can take courses at Career Center, Western Colorado Community College (WCCC), and Valley School.
  • Students enrolled in GRA Online will have a virtual meeting with each of their teachers for 1 hour a week.  This is in addition to online coursework.
  • Students enrolled in GRA Blended will come to our 600 N. 14th St. GJ, CO location at least once a week.
