At Grand River Academy, we value safety, inclusion, and growth. Every family wants success for their child, and we are prepared to meet those needs at the individual level.

Online learning is a collaborative effort between students, family, and the school. Here at GRA, we expect parents and families to take a front-seat perspective on their students’ education.

Our history has taught us that strong family partnerships are crucial to student success, so when you enroll at GRA, we want families to know what to expect, too!

Frequent communication with staff, regular monitoring of student progress, and access to technology are all crucial components of having your learner enrolled in online school.

Fusion

Independence with Support

GRA Fusion - Students attend in-person on our cozy campus one day per week based on their grade level.

Students rotate through core content classes, engaging in a variety of learning activities with highly qualified teachers.

GRA Fusion students also have opportunities for community building and physical activity built into their day on-site.

On non-attendance days, GRA Fusion Students are working in their independent learning to master content-based standards. These classes are monitored and graded by their on-site teachers

What to Expect as a GRA Fusion Student

Independent learning is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Work on mastering the standards-based learning on a schedule that works for your family. If you need support with your independent learning, your on-site teachers are happy to help!
Our local Grand Valley staff offers a variety of high-interest clubs for extracurricular opportunities. Students at GRA can also engage in electives and extracurriculars at their neighborhood school, attend CMU and CMU Tech, and engage in all D51 opportunities that they are eligible for!
Students and families who want a home-school feeling with supported, small classrooms for socialization and engaging hands-on activities are right at home with GRA-Fusion!

Flex

College-Style Learning

GRA Flex - Students have all the perks of homeschooling, with the added benefit of highly-qualified, experienced, and local educators.

GRA Flex students have 1-2 hours per week of live instruction via Google Meet to directly support their independent learning curriculum.

When students are not in live Google Meet classes, GRA Flex students are engaging in their independent learning. These classes are monitored and graded by their online teachers.

Independent learning is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Work on mastering the standards-based learning on a schedule that works for your family. If you need support with your independent learning, your Google Meet teachers are happy to help!
Students at GRA can also engage in electives and extracurriculars at their neighborhood school, attend CMU and CMU Tech, and engage in all D51 opportunities that they are eligible for! GRA Focus students often have outside community connections who need a flexible learning schedule.
Students and families who want a supported homeschool option with a more flexible schedule do great at GRA Focus.

Where Flexibility Fuels Achievement

D51 Forward (Powered by GRA) - Students don't have any in-person or remote live classes to attend. Rather, all of their coursework is completed independently at their own pace.

D51 Forward students can choose to engage in GRA-sponsored activities, D51 extracurricular activities, work, or attend concurrent enrollment classes with the peace of mind of independent scheduling.

When students are enrolled in D51 Forward, they control their learning, but are monitored by local educators. If support is necessary for success, we will work with the student and family to have a successful learning experience.

Independent learning is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Work on mastering the standards-based learning on a schedule that works for your family. If you need support with your independent learning, we have on-site and online labs available with teachers who are happy to help!

What to Expect as a Grand River Parent

Enrollment & Technology

Registration through ParentVue is required every year. This is required in all D51 schools!
Students need daily access to reliable internet and their D51 Chromebook

Learning Coaching

Every student should have a learning coach at home. For younger students, especially, this adult needs to be home during the school day.
Coaches help with structuring independent learning time, progress monitoring, and communication with teachers.
Learning coaches should be checking in with the student every day to look at progress in their courses.

Communication

Parents & learning coaches should check their emails & phones daily
Parents & learning coaches should respond to communications from the school within 48 hours & seek to navigate learning concerns with teachers first.

Attendance

Just like at traditional schools, if your learner is not going to be able to attend on campus or complete their independent work, parents should call in those absences.
At GRA, attendance is taken for in-person instruction, live online instruction, and for consistent daily progress in independent learning.

Whether it’s working with a complex home schedule, diving into extracurricular learning, supporting IEPs and ALPs, or just finding the right path, we are ready to support your family!

GRA is a K-12 school where learners of all ages and ability levels are invited to grow together in a supportive learning environment.
GRA offers all of the coursework for traditional elementary, middle, and high school students supported by local D51 educators.
GRA has no tuition, provides a Chromebook to all learners at enrollment, and students have the opportunity to engage in all D51 opportunities (arts, athletics, concurrent enrollment, and more)!
GRA educators have years of experience serving online learners in a variety of ways. Our expertise means that we are prepared to meet your family’s needs and to build a strong partnership between home and school.
GRA learners can earn a traditional D51 diploma, an alternative diploma through our Key Performance Program, or receive support and graduate with a GED all through Grand River Academy. Every learner is invited to participate in the graduation ceremony each May, regardless of which path they take toward graduation.
As a D51 school, transfers between GRA and traditional D51 schools are much simpler than leaving the district and trying to return. We partner with neighborhood schools for what is best for our learners' needs.
